Even though summer does not officially end until September 21st, I think yesterday was the true end of summer. I really feel like I am trying to hold on to this summer, and I am the first to look forward to the change of seasons, any season!
The summer of 2008 was rather unremarkable, and I did not want a repeat of it, so I was quite active this year. Even if I did not always have a captive audience for some of the activities, I poured my heart into them.
We went to Lava Hot Springs in Idaho for a tubing. It was really nice to actually get out and drive, drive like we were going somewhere. The tube rentals were cheap, and we packed really good food for the day. Dora spent a good part of the day relaxed and passed out in the Tahoe. Cody had no fear; after several runs he finally convinced Rich to take him down the water fall. Well, that ended up being the last run of the day because the boys were dumped, and Rich lost his glasses. The light quality on the drive home was so beautiful. I still look at that trip with a gleam in my eye, while my husband regards it as a disaster.
We spent evenings fishing, but never managed to catch a thing. To tell you the truth, I am not sure I would have known what to do with our catch. I never thought the point was to catch anything, but rather to enjoy the time spent together.
I think the weather conditions really made it difficult to sever the season. We had a wonderful summer here in Utah this year. Typical Utah summers the temperatures stay around 100 degrees for nearly a month straight. When the temps did rise, it seemed like it was only for a day or two before a cool front would come in. There were some beautiful thunderstorms, and many days low, misty clouds were covering the mountain tops, leaving everything looking dark blue and bright green.
Fall has been my favorite time of the year for a long time; I am a little concerned that I am not not meeting it with the enthusiasm that I once had. I will give it a little time and hope that I get giddy for the season soon.
