I was watching You've Got Mail tonight, when Kathleen Kelly was at the market and ended up in the cash only line with a credit card. Well, you can imagine how the five people behind her balked when she tried to use her credit card. The man behind her says very angrily "the sign says...", loosing all common sense and any grain of courtesy.
I notice that people drive with this same mentality, and sadly there are days that I do too. Going around in a little bubble thinking about who has the right away. "What are you doing? I have right away; I'll show you!" I find it interesting how we have so many accidents in this country when compared the busy streets of Shanghai. I would guess that the people in Shanghai are not going around bitching about who has the right of way; they bob, swerve, dodge and go on.
We live in communities that do not allow us to have clothes lines, but we buy chemicals to have that fresh scent in our homes. I really think we are confused right now. So as to not end on such a negative note, please look forward to my post on simple pleasures, like fresh laundry and teapots.
